Verifying a Claimed Verification Badge : Countering Fake Verification Badge Claim
Verifying a Claimed Verification Badge is the direct counter to Fake Verification Badge Claim: A verification claim is made in conversation or via screenshot rather than being visible on the actual live profile. Check verification status directly on the platform itself, and treat a claim or screenshot of it as no evidence at all.
Steps
- 01
Open the profile directly on the platform rather than relying on a screenshot sent in chat.
- 02
Look for the platform's own verification indicator in its usual place on the live profile.
- 03
Treat insistence on a verification claim that isn't visible live on the platform as a red flag, not a technicality.
