About Catfish Finder

Catfish Finder is a research and reference site for two things: figuring out whether the person you're talking to online is who they say they are, and reducing what a stranger can learn about you while you find out.

The Mission

Romance scams and catfishing follow recognizable patterns — the same tactics, the same scripted playbooks, reused across thousands of targets. Most of that pattern is documented, checkable, and avoidable once you know what to look for. This site catalogs those patterns (the Intel wing), the checks that verify or disprove a specific claim (the Investigation wing), and the steps that limit what a bad-faith contact can find out about you (the Defense & Privacy wing).

What the Tools Do — and Don't Do

Each investigation tool checks one specific, narrow thing against publicly available sources — a photo against known image indexes, a phone number's carrier and line type, a claimed name against public records, a handle against other platforms it appears on. What a check finds is something you can independently verify yourself; it isn't run against private databases, and it doesn't produce a guaranteed verdict. See How It Works for the full method walkthrough, or the FAQ for specific questions about legality and data use.

Who Operates This

Catfish Finder is independently operated and maintained. We believe in the same verify-before-you-trust standard we encourage our visitors to follow, which is why we aim to provide clear information about our service, policies, and how your information is handled.
